Don’t Eat Cucumbers in Germany This Summer!

CucumbersCaution:  We’ve just read a report that Germany is in the grips of a large and dangerous E. coli outbreak that has already infected over 1,000 people and has resulted in at least 18 deaths.    It is expected that E. coli infections will continue to spread throughout Europe and that more deaths are likely.

Cucumbers imported from Spain are suspected to be the most likely source of the bacteria at the moment, although further testing is ongoing.  Suffice to say, you should choose your salad ingredients very carefully while traveling in Europe this summer and avoid eating cucumbers altogether.  If  For more in-depth information about the E.coli outbreak, read this excellent article,  Killer Bacteria Outbreak Out of Control in Germany reported by Global Travel Industry News.
