Moms Plan A Quick Getaway to Mohegan Sun – Here’s What Happened
The Tale of the Mom’s Night Out, or how three Moms from Long Island make an exciting escape to Mohegan Sun Resort in Connecticut.
I was having a conversation with some friends (fellow moms) recently, about how we never got a night away from our children that were not work related. After a minute of discussion, we got down to the serious business of planning an overnight mom’s escape. We decided to choose a destination with lots to do, but still within an easy drive. After considering a few options, we realized the perfect choice for our ladies’ getaway was Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. Let’s review the facts: a short 3-hour drive from New York (Long Island), lots of great restaurants, live entertainment, gambling for those who want to give it a go, and a beautiful hotel with reasonable rates. What’s not to love about that?
We stayed in a beautiful room in the Earth Tower with a gorgeous view for our one-night getaway. After arriving early in the day, we headed to Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana for lunch. The service and food, pizza and salads, were amazing. After our leisurely lunch with no kids to chase after, we decided to do some shopping. They have some great stores all within the Mohegan Sun complex. Walking around we could see all the beautiful architecture, restaurants, bars, comedy clubs and of course gambling. There are two pools, spas and fitness centers to enjoy.
For our dinner that evening we chose Ballo, it was the most incredible meal. Our server AJ was phenomenal and treated us like Queens. We started out with truffle mac & cheese prepared table-side and eggplant parmigiana. Our dinner selections were chicken francese, shrimp and scallops, and tagliatelle with shrimp. Every dish was delicious. Of course, we ordered dessert which included the zeppoles with Nutella and chocolate cake. These desserts are a must have. It was an incredible dining experience, we relaxed and they did not rush us out the door. The staff was accommodating to our food allergies and had many alternatives to choose from.
Comix was next on our list for our big night out. The opening acts were funny and the staff was amazing. You could see the stage from anywhere in the room there was no bad seat in the house. We did hit a few slots on the way and sadly did not win, but it was fun to play. We ended the night dancing with DJ JC at The Landsdowne Irish Pub and Music House.
It was a memorable night away and Mohegan Sun has so much to offer that we did not have time to take advantage of it all. There is plenty of gambling if you like to gamble, the fitness center, and spas, and so many restaurants to choose from. They have tons of shows and concerts to see. Be sure to check their website for the calendar of performances that are scheduled. And there is even a kid’s area if you decide to bring the kids along.
We ended our weekend with breakfast at Tom’s Urban for delicious omelets, hash browns and English muffins. They had a wonderful breakfast/brunch menu. After breakfast, we hit Dylan’s Candy bar for treats to bring home for the kids and one last visit to the pool to relax before the drive back home.
This was a great overnight trip for busy moms. We felt like we got away, had some pampering, and really enjoyed our girl time together. Best of all, it was a short car ride away and all the amenities we could wish for were right there to experience. Who knows, we had so much fun it just may become an annual escape!
Visit the Mohegan Sun website to see all their amenities, what entertainment is coming and check hotel availability.
