Adventure seekers can also hike or camp around the lake to experience the true essence of the North Texas treasure.

However, if you wish to relax and spend your days lazing under the sun, you can check into the Cliffs Resort. Sprawled over 1090 acres, it has the Cliffs Spa, which offers a diverse list of relaxing treatments in a tranquil environment. You can work on your tan at the poolside or head to the lake for a breath of fresh air.

Granbury

Granbury is another quaint Texas town, located at about 80 miles west of Dallas. In the evenings, you can experience the thriving nightlife, including the historic Brazos Drive-In movie theater.

You can stay in one of the many inns, which offer a cozy, relaxing atmosphere. One of the highlights of the city is the beautifully renovated 1886 Opera House, with mesmerizing productions.

On Saturday afternoons, you should check out the highly popular Revolver Brewery for a cold brew or a glass of wine.

Tyler and Bullard

The charming, old-fashion town of Tayler is just a two-hour drive from Dallas. It is famous for its rose bushes, and has earned the name “Rose Capital of America”. Almost one-fifth of the countries’ rose bushes come from this town.  Therefore, a visit to Tyler is incomplete without a visit to the Tyler Rose Garden, which features more than 500 different varieties of roses.

In addition to the roses, you should check out the American Freedom Museum, located on The Brook Hill School campus in Bullard, a few miles south of the town. It hosts an extensive collection of signed documents by every American president as well as chronicles one of the major conflicts involving the United States.

Ten minutes from the museum is the Kiepersol winery, restaurant, and bed-and-breakfast, notable for its high-quality wine and exemplary services. You can also indulge in a scrumptious dinner of steak or seafood with an expansive wine collection from around the world.

Waco

The college town of Waco is another excellent option for a quick getaway. Located at about 95 miles from Dallas, it offers some incredible sightseeing options as well as an exciting zoo and several museums. The city lies adjacent to the Brazos River, with picturesque views and numerous open spaces.

If you are interested in history, Waco hosts quite a number of museums. The Mayborn Museum Complex, at the Baylor University campus, has interactive displays and hands-on, engaging experience that attract the kids and adults alike. The Waco Mammoth Site has a see-through floor for guests to walk on and take in the relics of the Columbian mammoth bones displayed below.

Shopaholics can visit the Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Market where they can peruse and buy an eclectic assortment of contemporary and vintage furniture. For a taste of heaven, you can visit the Collin Street Bakery for a slice of pie or their famous fruitcake.

In addition, the 52-acre zoo is also perfect for families, with plenty of shaded areas and splashing waterfalls, which offer respite from the Texas sun.

Fredericksburg

A four-hour drive south from Dallas will take you to Fredericksburg, famous for authentic German food and vast acres of vineyards. While it is no Napa Valley, Fredericksburg is Texas Wine Country at its best.
