Top Cities to See on a Trip to Eastern Canada

If you have been to Canada before, you will appreciate that trying to see all its major attractions can be hard. It often involves a lot of traveling, and you might only get a brief time in each location. This can make it necessary to plan future vacations to this wonderful country, so you can see all those places you missed before. To give you an idea of the best places to go in Canada, here are some tips on the cities you should see in the eastern provinces on your next visit.

Toronto

Toronto is the largest city in Canada, and also the best known.   Some make a mistake in thinking it’s the capital city, but that is Ottawa. However, Toronto is more like New York City, with its skyscrapers, high-class shopping and many big businesses. For people who love the buzz of a vibrant city, this is a great choice. Even though it might not have much in the way of relaxation, it does have great shopping opportunities, with the chance to see what the latest Canadian fashion trends are, and a great theatre and nightlife scene.

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls Canada

From Toronto, it is only a short journey to one of the most well-known sights in the world.  Niagara Falls is actually three falls combined: the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, and the Bridal Veil Falls. Many people believe that the most dramatic views are from the Canadian side of the falls.  To see this natural wonder in all its glory, you can go on one of the Maid of the Mist tours, which takes you close to the base of the falls. There is also a theme park town on the American side that welcomes visitors to the falls.  This area is also famed for vineyards and the production of ice wine.  The falls create its own micro-climate that is perfect for growing grapes.

Montreal

Montreal Canada

Montreal is the second-largest city in Canada, and also has a big French influence. Over half of the population speaks French, and it has a lot of the chic and festive vibes that you would find in a European City. Montreal is certainly laid back, and you will find that there are many types of cuisines represented in the many bars and restaurants. If you love skiing or mountain views, you can also take a short trip to Tremblant which is just North-West of the city. Here is your chance to stay at the magnificent Tremblant Hotel and travel down to Montreal for a day trip.

Ottawa

Ottawa Canada

Canada’s capital city, Ottawa is not what you might expect. It is a small and friendly city that is nowhere near as big as Toronto or Montreal. It does have some great scenery, national museums, and is bike friendly for those that want to explore the area without being stuck in a bus or taxi. Because Ottawa is not too far from Montreal, you could probably visit both these amazing cities in one trip without sacrificing any time in your schedule.  Just outside of the city is one of the most unique gardens in the world.  Mosaiculture Gatineau 2018 in Jacques Cartier Park, is the gathering of 125 floral sculptures in 45 themes.  The sculptures use an astonishing 5.5 million plants and can be admired while walking along a 60-90 minute stroll.

A trip to Canada is more than seeing the amazing architecture and visiting the ski resorts. There are also beautiful hikes that you can take, and many of the ski resorts have activities in the summer months as well. Don’t try to see too much in one visit, or you will miss a lot of what makes Canada a great vacation destination.
