English Heritage Sites – UK Destinations Steeped in History
Where to Experience English Heritage at UK Destinations Steeped in History.
If you are looking for something a little different for your next trip in the UK this year, why not head to a destination with a little history to offer. The UK has many heritage sites and historic towns, so deciding which to choose may be your biggest challenge. Whether you are seeking spirituality, relaxation, exploration, or education, there is a destination for you.
Battle Abbey – Hastings
Hastings, situated on the South East coast of England, is most famously recognized as the location of the 1066 battle. The battle, in fact, took place just a few miles outside of Hastings at Battle Abbey, which is now an English Heritage site and popular tourist attraction where you can explore the abbey ruins, stroll through the gardens and battlefield and absorb the fascinating exhibitions.
As well as the Norman Invasion, Hastings also has a rich history of fishing. Visit one of the seaside museums, stroll the pier, head to the aquarium, or explore the old smuggler’s caves. Offering over 150 miles of coastline, museums, festivals, and castles you’ll likely want to return to one of many beautiful Hastings Holiday Cottages to put your feet up and relax before heading out again for more exploring.
Roman Baths – Bath
If you are after a historic city break, then why not visit Bath? Bath is the largest city in Somerset and is most famous for being the location of the Roman Baths. The Baths are a popular attraction and welcomed over 1.5 million visitors in 2018. The museum offers a fascinating insight into their former glory and the people who would have used them.
If you feel inspired, then you can also visit Thermae Bath Spa and bathe in the mineral-rich waters in the rooftop pool overlooking the city, or enjoy a relaxing treatment. Then why not head out to one of the cities many fine eateries and enjoy the nightlife before returning to your accommodation.
Windsor Castle – Windsor
Windsor is another historic town in the South East of England. The town boasts stunning architecture, the grandest of which is inarguable Windsor Castle. It is the biggest and eldest inhabited castle in the world and has been called home to 39 royals since William the Conqueror founded it in the 11th century.
The castle is not the only thing to enjoy in Windsor. You can take a boat ride along the Thames and get the lay of the land or treat the children to a trip to Legoland™ Windsor and build some family memories.
Other Historic Sites
