How To Go Wild Camping To Get Off The Beaten Path

Adventure Camping Tips

Travel options are finally starting to open up as airlines are resuming service and attractions are reopening their doors. If you have been itching to travel then you can now get away and enjoy some different scenery. The only trouble is that the pandemic is still happening and we need to keep our distance from large crowds.

Seems like sightseeing in popular places is off the list and even camping can be a bit too crowded. Maybe it is time to start thinking of a different travel experience like bike-packing or wild camping. Wild camping is what many people now call off-grid camping as you are not staying in traditional campgrounds.

In this article, we will go over exactly what wild camping is and how you can do it too.

Make it legal

Many people think of staying in a tent wherever they see fit. And sometimes they stay in areas where camping is prohibited. For them, the risk is part of the experience. Instead, stay in wild areas where it is allowed so you don’t run into trouble. It’s also the responsible thing to do.

Research your route and look for places where you can legally camp. Or, you can ask some of the people that have land where you plan to go if they mind if you set up a tent on their property if it is rural and you promise to keep it clean.

Power up

Out in the wild, you are not likely to find many places where you can keep your devices charged. And it is very important that you do so if you are off of the beaten path. You will need your GPS charged and your cellphone in case of an emergency.

Shop solar kits that you can pack up easily and take with you anywhere so you can always be sure that you have enough power for your needs.

Plan well

Besides just looking for legal areas to camp, you need to research the area where you think you can set up without any hassles. This is the best way to make sure that you have everything you need while there. It is also to mitigate any risks while away from civilization.

For instance, if you plan to spend the night on a remote beach, you’ll need to understand the tides to not get caught in a high tide. In the woods, find out how much of a risk there is for bears in the area. Things like that can really ruin your trip so stay abreast of everything you need to know.

Leave no trace

You should have as close to no impact on the place where you plan to camp as possible. This includes not leaving any trash behind but also being a good steward of the land. If the area is prone to wildfires, then be responsible when you cook.

If there are bears in the area, then keep your food hung from a tree so they don’t get into it. When you leave it should be like you were never even there.
