Warm Winter Destinations

Beat the January blues at these 4 gorgeous destinations

Who else is already tired of the cold? Believe it or not, we’re still officially in Autumn, which means that there’s still plenty more cold weather to come.

If that feels a little bleak, don’t worry. Just because it’s winter in the States doesn’t mean there isn’t sun elsewhere. In fact, the southern hemisphere is looking particularly attractive right now! Beat the January blues and escape the cold by leaving it all for sunnier climes. If it’s a little boost you need, read on to find warm and sunny destinations for January travel.

Australia

There’s a reason we always think of Aussie Christmases being spent on the beach. It’s because they actually are! Thousands upon thousands of miles of sandy beaches await as Australia hits its summer stride. Whilst the East Coast is packed with great cities, towns and wildlife, you could also venture west to Perth for a super cosmopolitan feel.

The further north you go, of course, the hotter it gets. The whole of Queensland is a tropical paradise come January, a far cry from the frosty sidewalks of New York.

South Africa

The clue’s in the name when it comes to South Africa and like Australia, it enjoys the summer months from December onwards. Head to Cape Town for some oceanic-cum-modern-city vistas and hike up Table Mountain whilst you’re at it.

Alternatively enjoy a bit of adventure travel, heading out to South Africa’s most celebrated national park for some wildlife spotting. Boasting some of the world’s most exotic animals like lions, giraffes and zebras, this is your chance to see these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

Thailand

A sunny corner of Southeast Asia for all the pleasure seekers, Thailand is the ultimate place to combat those January blues. January is their warmest and driest month, making for the perfect weather for uninterrupted sunbathing, adventuring or island hopping.

Feed your inner culture vulture with ancient museums and temples, treat your wildlife fanatic to the thousands of wild monkeys that occupy the vast forests or unleash your party animal in Bangkok. Like New York, it’s a city that never sleeps!

Morocco

Northern Africa also has plenty to offer during our wintertime. Morocco, with its centuries-old culture, desert plains, vibrant markets and tantalising food, offers all the sensual rejuvenation that we need after months snuggled under the blanket.

Time to feel alive again whilst gazing at the ancient architecture, wandering around the temples and treating the tastebuds to sumptuous tagines, spiced cous cous, tender tanjia and buttery pastela. One for anyone who wants to fully immerse themselves in a wholly different culture, Morocco has something for everyone. It even has the Atlas Mountains for the adventure seekers amongst you.
