Traveling is something that many of us will do on an occasional or regular basis.  Depending on who you are and what you do in life, travel might sometimes be for work or purely for leisure. Whatever trip or holiday you have planned next, there’s always a handy list of things to do before you set off. This guide will also be handy for anyone who has perhaps not traveled before or simply wants to make traveling a little easier this time around. Here is a travel checklist of six things to do before traveling.

Organize Your Transport To The Airport

When it comes to getting yourself and your party to the airport, it can often be a bit of a challenge. Depending on your choice of transport and what’s available, you might wish to book yourself airport transfer services in the form of taxis or even mini-buses if your group is a large one. With transport, there’s a lot of options out there and you may also want to drive yourself to the airport and use the airport parking services. Whatever you choose whether it’s your own transport, public or private, make sure you’ve done this in advance. If you’re booking a taxi, make sure you’ve scheduled this so that you don’t need to worry about doing it the day before or even on the day of your travel.

Check All Passports & Documents Are Ready

With traveling, the first thing you should always check is that you have all your passports and documents ready to go. There’s really nothing more terrifying than realizing one of the passports has gone walkabouts or perhaps a certain document hasn’t been printed out yet. For many, it’s probably common to check you have your passports and documents every five minutes for fear of the worst happening. It’s no so bad if it were to happen in your own country, but it becomes a lot more challenging when it comes to being in a foreign country and not having your passport.

Check you have them the night before and that they’re in your carry-on. Check again before you leave your home and again once you’re at the airport. It seems excessive, but it’s going to give you peace of mind and avoid that stomach-churning realization that something isn’t there when you need it.

Get A Good Night’s Sleep

A good night’s sleep is a must because you and your group (if you’re traveling with others) want to be fresh-faced and energized to take on the day. Traveling can be pretty much exhausting and so regardless of how short or long the plane ride will be, it’s important that you get a good night’s sleep. Set any alarms that are needed and try to do some exercise before you go bed so that you get rid of any of that excitement you usually have before you travel. It’s a bit like Christmas Eve as a kid, right?

If you struggle with sleeping, you might want to wear an eye mask or perhaps have a hot drink before doing to bed to make you more comfortable. There’s also medication to consider but only use this as a last resort as you don’t want to become reliant on them.

Ensure You Have The Right Amount Of Travel Currency

Travel currency is a must to get organized, even though notes and coins aren’t used as much as they used to be. You’re always going to save yourself from fees and charges when overseas if you use notes and coins. However, even though notes are more financially beneficial for the most part, it’s always good to have multiple forms of currency. By having multiple forms of currency, you have backups in case a card doesn’t work on any occasion or if you’ve eventually run out of cash.

Ideally, you want to carry cash, you want to have a couple of debit cards, a travel card that you can load money onto, and perhaps even a credit card. Make sure you also inform your bank accounts and card suppliers that you’re going abroad so they don’t block your usage of the cards.

Re-Check Your Packing

When it comes to packing, it’s always good to re-check it the night before or the morning of your travel. It’s worth creating a to-do list because it can ensure you are packing everything you need for the trip. It’s always better to have too much than too little at the end of the day. Make sure you’ve got all the essentials both for clothing but also for travel needs like a travel plug, perhaps a first aid kit of some kind, and accessories to use on the plane.

It’s always good to have check-in luggage for any trip that’s for more than just a day or two. You never know what might happen either where you could end up being stranded abroad. Being prepared for anything and everything is going to make your trip a lot more enjoyable and less of a nightmare.

Check For Any Health Or Travel Warnings

And finally, before traveling, make sure you’re checking your own country and the place you’re traveling to for any health or travel warnings. These are going to be easy enough to know about, thanks to the internet and how fast information can travel. It’s good to be aware of this in case you need to make any last-minute changes. For the sake of your health and wellbeing, don’t dismiss checking this as it could end up impacting your travel arrangements and the experience you have on the day of your travel.

The airport’s website, CDC or Embassy websites are going to be the best place to find out this type of information.

Traveling is something we’ll hopefully do a lot more of this year once everything calms down with this pandemic. However, when we do get around to traveling normally again, make sure you use these tips above so that you are making your travel experience, the best it can be.
