Five Fantastic Sydney North Beaches
Well over 100 beautiful beaches hug the city of Sydney, making it one of the most popular vacation destinations in Australia and the rest of the world that that matter. The South Pacific Ocean coastline beaches come in varying sizes and each has its own unique personality. Lucky are the locals and the tourists with the freedom to roam the coastline and explore the surfer beaches, harbour coves, bays and rivers that are a part of this city’s fantastic beach scene.To make these dozens and dozens of beaches a bit easier to distinguish, they are divided into the two broad categories of North Beaches and South Beaches. Popular with the local “surfies”, The North Beach District extends southward to Port Jackson, the entrance of the Sydney Harbour, northward to Broken Bay and westward to Middle Harbour. Hire a car while in Sydney and visit some of the fabulous North Beaches. Here are five that shouldn’t be missed:
Palm Beach
Palm Beach, New South Wales is just over an hour’s drive from the city. It is a great beach for adults and kids. As with most of the northern beaches, natural rock pools form the perfect spot for swimming. The golden sandy beach stretches for two kilometers from Barrenjoy Bay to Little Head at the end of a long Peninsula. The home of plenty of wealthy Aussie’s, it is also the setting for the fictitious Summer Bay of the Home and Away TV series.
Palm Beach, New South Wales is just over an hour’s drive from the city. It is a great beach for adults and kids. As with most of the northern beaches, natural rock pools form the perfect spot for swimming. To really get away from it all, hire a car for a day trip to Whale Beach. Quieter than most, this beach has lovely scenery, a park, outdoor showers and a cafe with wonderful food. Relax and watch the whales playing in the sunset. If you just can’t seem to leave right away, not to worry. A couple of good bed and breakfast inns run by friendly locals will have a spot for you.

Green grass and great waves give Newport Beach its unique personality. It is one of Sydney’s loveliest northern beaches, and the drive to get there is just as beautiful. Pack a picnic for lunching by the sea. Play in the surf all day and then have dinner in one of the cafes or restaurants along the strip.
